Kitty Fight

On a hot May 1, 2010 the Purple Panthers played the Red Wildcats in softball.
In the top of the first there were two huge highlights. With one out, Wildcat number 4 hit a sky high bomb to shallow center for an easy single. There was a hard line drive to first base fielded by Panther number 10 for a batter and first baseman race.
In the bottom of the first, bases were loaded for Panther number 7. She drove in a run followed by one more and followed by a grand slam by Panther number 9.
In the top of the second, number 1 Wildcat hit a line drive to shallow right center that got by Panther second baseman number 5 for a base hit. Next came an easy dribbler right to third where the third baseman fielded it and made a force out play. With Wildcats on first and second, there was a rip to right field by number 12. Number 7 followed 12’s example with a base hit.

There was a hard grounder to third when the runner (Panther number 3) decided to go to second for the first double of the game. What an exciting start to the bottom of the second inning! This was followed by a single by number 5. With Purple Panthers on first and second, there was a base hit and all runners advanced. Next, there was a single, bringing number 5 to the plate. Things were getting tense! There was an RBI single by number 8 which left number 9 to clean things up.
At the top of the third, there was a hard hit to first base for a batter versus fielder race. Panther number 10, the first baseman, made the play for out number one. Boy oh boy, first base is a hot spot! One more hit to first, and the first play was repeated. There was a runner on third with a Wildcat up at bat, but she was quickly retired. Next up was number 12 who got an RBI single. Last, batter number 3 had bases loaded and didn’t fail the team. Grand slam!

At the bottom of the last inning, the Panthers got a three run homer to end the game after two base hits. The game ended when Panther number 8 trotted ‘round the bases.
After a long game of softball, the two teams shook hands and went home. It was a very exciting game in the Bethwood Softball league!
