In a rematch of their April 24th game, the Woodbridge Panthers took on the Orange Panthers at the Old Tavern Road Recreational Area Saturday morning. The Beth Wood Softball Rookie league focuses on the young players enjoying the game as they develop their skills and Saturday’s game was a perfect example of this.

Players, along with their parents and other fans enjoyed the warm spring sunshine interrupted only occasionally by chilly breezes. On the field, improvement in batting was easily discernable as many players connected nicely with the ball. Fielding was also notably improved with several exciting plays at third base and home plate.

To go along with the enjoyable development of skills by the players, the Woodbridge Citizen seeks to provide opportunities for students from town to develop their skills as budding sports reporters. So far, two students have started reporting on Woodbridge Sports. To protect the privacy of these young reporters, the Woodbridge Citizen has modified its policies. Adults are still required to use their full names when writing for the Woodbridge Citizen, but student reporters will use their first name and last initial. Hopefully, these student reporters will show similar joy and growth in their reporting that the Beth Wood Softball Rookies are showing in their playing. Unfortunately, for Saturday’s game, none of the student reporters were available.

The Woodbridge Panthers have games this coming Tuesday and Thursday at the Center Fields. The Woodbridge Lady Spartans will play Tuesday night in Orange against the Orange Panthers and the Woodbridge Wildcats will play in Orange on Thursday evening. Reporters, either student or adult, are sought to cover these and other Beth Wood Softball games.
