Over the past several days, tree workers have been clearing branches away from power lines in various parts of Woodbridge and employees of United Illuminating have been contacting home owners about the tree work. It is important to make sure that branches are far enough from power lines so that power outages are less likely during summer storms.

Unfortunately, not everyone visiting people’s houses right now are involved with tree removal. Today, the Woodbridge Police Department issues a press release about a recent burglary on Litchfield Turnpike.

An unidentified male went to a Litchfield Turnpike residence and coaxed the elderly female occupant to come outside so he could show her some tree work that he allegedly was going to be doing on the neighbor’s property, claiming that as a “courtesy” he just wanted to show her so that she would be aware of it when they commenced working. The female occupant joined the male outside for a brief period of time, and when she went back inside her home she discovered that her house had been burglarized by another unknown person. Items stolen from this residence included cash and jewelry.

Woodbridge Police detectives are working with the New Haven Police Department since a similar incident occurred in New Haven last week.

Residents are reminded to be cautious of unexpected visits by alleged construction workers,
landscapers, or utility workers. They should demand positive identification from the individuals and
should not hesitate to report any suspicious persons or activity to the Police Department immediately.
